Life As A Substitute Teacher
In broadcast media this week I sat down with Mr. Geehrer and talked to him about what life is like as a substitute teacher. The first question we asked him was how did you even get into this job. He stated “first I came home from college after sophomore year of never having a job. My mother was upset with me so she told me to get a job and she got me a job at the school.” The next question I asked him was what was the first class he took as a substitute teacher. He then stated “ I subbed for a retired social studies teacher, Miss Rogan. She had honors level students and it went very smoothly, and she also is a close friend of my mother’s so I think she warned the class beforehand if they weren’t nice to me there would be great consequences.” The third to the last question I asked was what was the best moment as being a substitute teacher? He said “The best thing about being a substitute teacher was finally teaching Cole Dawkins the alphabet up until his senior year. He had not learned it, but seeing him improve throughout the year and finally be able to sing it. It’s very special to me. The second to last question I asked him was what was the worst moment of being a substitute teacher. He then said “any interaction I’ve had with a freshman student ever.” Lastly I asked him what is his plan for next year and what he is wanting to overcome. He then stated “next year I hope to be working at a Catholic school as a full-time teacher and I hope to overcome unemployment.” Lastly we love having Mr. Geehrer as a substitute teacher and we wish him nothing but the best!
