Tops Friendly Markets
The exterior of Tops Friendly Markets, Chittenango
I have worked at Tops Friendly Markets in Chittenango for one year as a cart pusher, and I have had both good and bad experiences. I became a cart pusher in order to make money as a high school student. As a cart pusher, it is my responsibility to make sure that all of the shopping carts are inside of the store and neatly lined up. My job can be difficult at times because only one cart pusher is working at a time. Going outside to get the carts is a hassle, because I always need to make sure that there are no carts left around in the parking lot instead of the corrals or building. Additionally, the winter weather is harsh due to the temperature and snow, and the summer is blazing hot from the heat of the paved parking lot. The job has many negative aspects, but it can still be fun meeting new people and helping others with their groceries.
While pushing in carts is difficult and tiring, my job also consists of the challenging task of cleaning the store and keeping it tidy. It is my job to clean up spills with the mop or broom and leave a wet floor sign out in case there is any liquid spill. Customers often make messes that I have to clean, which can be stressful if I already have something else that I was working on. Working at Tops is hard and tiring, but it makes me money and helps me communicate with new people every day, which is why I enjoy my job.
