During the 2025-2026 school year our JV and Varsity girls teams have decided to switch to the fall season. Prior to this they played during the winter season. Years before this they had won sectionals, but they wanted something more; they wanted to have more opportunities to go past sectionals and compete in states. The team thinks that moving volleyball to the fall will help them reach that goal.
According to athletic director, Mr. Gryzka, “we moved to the fall, because we have lost several of our winter competitions because they have moved or are going to move to the fall league some time soon. That has made the winter competition get a lot smaller, and it’s hard to transport all these kids in the winter because we have to travel so far and it’s during the winter so there are a lot of snow storms and weather complications.” In other words the CNY winters have been becoming more hazardous with the snow becoming a huge issue, and it’s hard to transport all these kids far away for a volleyball game. He also states, “Moving to the fall provides more competition, more opportunities to win sectionals and advance onto states. Moving to the fall also helps with gym space and gives the players a regular schedule instead of having practices be at different times everyday. Unlike previous winter seasons when practice times were regular, this winter practice times would be either 3, 5 or 7 o’clock and that would mess up students and families schedules.” Some students have stated that when practices were at 5 o’clock it’s a very awkward time because they would usually get all their homework done within that hour and eat dinner so that takes up that time. Or even practices at 7 would be a lot for them because practices would get over at 9 and that’s the time that people would want to be in bed ready to go to sleep. My Gryzka also stated the fact that, “playing in the fall provides families with holiday time during the winter months and not have to stress about having to get their kid to a volleyball practice or game. The negative of it is that there is a conflict between the kids who play a fall sport like soccer or tennis and have to choose now between playing one of those sports which have upset the kids.”
With the girls continuing with their season, we wish the girls luck and hope that they reach the goal of advancing past sectionals and maybe winning states!
