During the Christmas season, many love to give to others, especially those in need. If you’re one of those people, the Chittenango Highschool giving tree sponsored by St. Francis of Assisi may be a great option for you. The giving tree functions the same as organizations like the angle tree which is found in many stores. There are two ways to help others in this program. You may adopt a family or donate new items. If you are interested in adopting a family, some items that could be donated are toys or other gift items of about 40 dollars maximum as well as one outfit or sweatshirt and a winter hat and gloves or mittens. If you would like to go the other route and just donate to a variety of ages, some appreciated items would be clothing, socks, and winter wear in both children and adult sizes, toys, games, and art supplies for all ages, and lastly teen gifts, personal care and comfort items. If you want to take a roll in this and shopping isn’t your thing, there is still a way for you to participate! All you have to do is make a check payable to St. Francis of Assisi Outreach and mail it to C/O Karin Spencer, P.O. Box 234, Bridgeport, NY 13030. In addition to all you can already do, families can visit the giving tree online store where you can select and add additional items like gently used clothing, toys, housewares, and more. If you have any items in good condition that you may be interested in donating, you are able to drop them off on Sunday, December 14th from 11am through 3pm at the St. Francis parish center. This program has been run for over 50 years, giving a great Christmas to over 400 children just last year alone! Imagine how many more will be able to feel the magic of Christmas as the program continues to grow, and thanks to the support and generosity of our community, the program continues to grow each year! If you are a student in the high school who is interested in this, you are able to drop off items in the main office. If you have any questions see Mrs. Gibbons in the front office and have a very Merry Christmas!
