Around this time of year, a majority of the senior class loses their motivation to do school work, lack of attendance, and always feeling fatigue, this is called Senioritis. Although students try to get out of this so-called phase, it is very hard to gain motivation on their own. Or they will shrug it off till it is too late to fix because it could ruin their overall GPA and may affect their enrollment in college. Many students will also procrastinate which causes late work, bad grades on tests, and lack of knowledge on the subject or topic of the class and could potentially lead to failing. Senior year is somewhat easier than other years, no regents, not as much stress to study, and more freedom. There’s not an actual reason for Senioritis, it truly just happens to some. According to ebsco.com they state “For high school seniors, they can finally see the finish line after twelve years of schooling. High school seniors face the pressure of applying to colleges and leaving home. They spend months filling out college applications. Once they are accepted into the college of their choice, students may view it as securing their future and then slack off during their final year. After all their hard work, they may justify brushing off their academic obligations”. The choices of slacking because you already feel done can be very detrimental to your future, you won’t know till it is too late. Many seniors due to senioritis often try to catch up last minute to get all their credits to graduate and try to pass all their classes, procrastination can truly change your future. If you feel this way and want to get out of it, our school counselors can help!
