The Chittenango Drama Club is back yet again with another exciting show this spring! Students in the cast and crew have been working hard since the start of the new year to put together their presentation of “Titanic”! The show is once again directed by the wonderful Mr. Stearns, accompanied by his partner in crime Mrs. Murphy. The show will feature over 100 kids from the Chittenango High School and Middle School both on stage and behind the scenes.
Unlike the original movie in 1997, the Broadway hit “Titanic” tells the true stories of real immigrants along with historically accurate greedy upper class entanglement. The musical is an emotional and comedic journey, with the broadway production racking up 5 tony awards, including Best Musical. Hundreds of immigrants alongside rich upper class passengers boarded the destined for disaster Titanic luxury ship intending to travel and enjoy the maiden voyage from Southampton to New York in April, 1912. A late night iceberg collision forces a dangerous situation upon all passengers boarded on the ship and classes struggle on many levels as they face impossible choices. In a survival situation, they must work together to communicate and build trust before it is too late and their fates are sealed.
With a wide variety of passengers and crew members on deck, Act 1 introduces many important characters, including real historical figures aboard the ship. Derek Gay stars as the ship’s architect, Thomas Andrews, alongside CJ Blair as Capt. E.J. Smith and Griffin Schmidt as J. Bruce Ismay. Other passengers on deck include Taylor Velardi as Alice Beane and Noah Haarman as Edgar Beane. Historical Figures included in the cast are Bryce Lapoint and Kierstin Checksfield as Isidor and Ida Straus, Gideon Keville and Sara Schnauffer as Benjamin Guggenheim and Madam Aubert, and Jaymes Ronalds and Isabella Lapointe as John Jacob and Madeline Astor. Third Class Passengers Include Sadie Jones, Molly Douglas and Hope Rock as the three Kates, and Hudson Schmidt as Jim Farrell. Additional cast members include Elijah Hoover as Frederick Barrett and Joey Fox as Harold Bride.
While the cast will be performing on the stage, the production would not be possible without a solid crew behind the scenes whose members include seniors Bella Depaul and Sophia Vecchio, as well as Bella Delia and Ellery Beck. The same is true for the pit orchestra and a shout out to all our seniors as well as Mr. Velardi and Mrs. Stearns.
You can get your tickets now to see Chittenango’s rendition of the Broadway hit “Titanic” from March 19-21st at the Chittenango High School auditorium.
