The Chittenango cheer team competed in States for the second year in a row on Saturday, November 8th at Hudson Valley Community College just a week after they placed first at Sectionals at OCC.
Saturday at 2 the cheer team met at the High School and entered the bus. After the 3 hour bus ride, the cheer team got to see the hall that they would perform in the next day, had 20 scheduled minutes to practice and some time after to buy states merch.
The coaches had ordered food at a diner nearby which had been picked up by some parents.
The cheer team drove to the hotel and everybody got their room, it was between 3 to 4 girls in a room. The girls had the evening free. Some girls went to the hotel pool, while some others just stayed in their room and talked or watched something.
The week before all girls from the cheer team had ordered matching pink Cheeto print pajamas on Amazon. Everybody put on their pajamas, and the whole team took a picture. After they had homemade cupcakes, made by one of the girl’s mom.
Saturday morning everybody woke up, started getting ready and cleaned the room to be ready by 9, while coach Kari Cumber prepared bagels with cream cheese. And then it got serious; the team drove to the college.
Like always the cheer team stretched, got ready to perform and did a walk through. At 11:05 they entered the big stage. For me personally it was really cool performing in such a big hall with so many people. We even spotted some Chittenango parents who supported us with loud cheering.
In the end Chittenango placed 5th!
