Thanksgiving, the word that comes to your head when you hear holidays in the USA. The Thanksgiving of 2025/2026 is going to be my first thanksgiving in all my life. I’m so excited to live this American tradition because I’m going to go to Micah’s grandfather’s house, and there is going to be plenty of food. This is the most popular country to celebrate Thanksgiving, but we are going to find out how they celebrate in other countries.
The countries that celebrate this holiday are Japan, LIberia, Canada,Germany, Brazil, South Korea, India, China and Ghana. Thanksgiving in Canada is so similar to the American one, it’s the second Monday of October and they also have plenty of food. In the country of Liberia, the national day is the first Thursday of November, reflecting its American roots with church services and auctions of fruit baskets. In Germany they do it in early October, with church celebrations and thanksgiving for good fortune; it’s similar to Liberia’s Thanksgiving. In Brazil there is a Dia de Ação de Graças (Day of Thanksgiving) on the fourth Thursday of November, though it’s a more subdued, unofficial event. In South Korea they do the Chuseok, a three-day holiday, is a major harvest festival involving ancestor respect, hometown visits, and special foods and in China, it’s called The Mid-Autumn Festival (or Mooncake Festival) is a traditional harvest-related celebration.
In my opinion the best Thanksgiving is going to be the American one but also all these countries have many interesting traditions to celebrate on this days. Some typical dishes in America are the turkey and gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes or apple pie. These delicious dishes are so common for this day. Most of the people spend all day cooking and sometimes also they start the day before, for having more time the next day.
