Do you know what the B-squad is? Or maybe what it started from. The Bear squad originated from Rachael’s challenge. Rachael’s Challenge is a non-profit organization providing school assemblies and programs designed to reduce violence, bullying, and self-harm by promoting kindness and compassion. This organization was founded by the family of Rachel Scott. The first victim of the 1999 Columbine high school shooting. Rachel’s challenge uses Rachel’s story to teach that a simple act of kindness can create a chain reaction that transforms school culture. We now have a bear squad in our school. Our bear squad has done many projects this year and may have seen things outside the lunch room in the hallways or even outside the school. They started with the chalk board to embrace young adults’ health highs. After that another project was Red ribbon week this year the theme was “life is a puzzle, solve it Drug Free” which you may have colored one or seen all them hung up. A recent one was chalking in the back of the school to lift people’s days up with positive messages. The latest project was the bulletin board to spread awareness of gambling. Gambling can be very dangerous, especially for young people. The bear squad has a 10th period meeting once a month to discuss the next project.
