Mr. Bailey is a substitute teacher here at Chittenango High School and he is known by students and staff for being a very kind, good teacher. Mr. Bailey started teaching because he loves to learn new things. He minored in history at Hobart College, where learned he loves to learn from the youth as well as teach them. Before Mr. Bailey was a teacher, for the city of Syracuse, where he learned he was good at teaching. He ran a public service core after college and the funding ran out for Mr Bailey’s program, even though he lost funding he still wanted to start teaching.
Mr Bailey started teaching in Chittenango during 1998. He taught two classes when he started: Participation in Government and US history. Mr Bailey loved to teach both classes, because he got a new group of seniors every half a year. Mr. Bailey is choosing to sub still because he likes the interaction with students and staff.
I asked Mr Bailey what his favorite class to sub was, and Mr Bailey said he likes impacting kids’ lives more than just having kids come to your class if he was teaching a class and saw a student needed help he would help the student catch up Mr Bailey enjoys being around and watching kids progress to what they want in life. He says, “if I ever saw anybody who looked like they needed help, I would help them achieve what they want to and then continue to go help the next kid.”
Additionally, Mr. Bailey loves lacrosse; he coached 7 years at Lafayette and coached 7 years of lacrosse at Chittenango, but Mr. Bailey enjoyed coaching in Chittenango more because kids had more too learn and knew less, Mr. Bailey loves to watch people grow in life. When Mr. Bailey was coaching at Lafayette, he coached very good teams and won a lot at Lafayette but that wasn’t important to him; what was important to him was watching kids he coached go on to win the Tewaaraton and other big accomplishments, like coaching pro lacrosse players. Mr. Bailey also besides teaching and coaching loved to play lacrosse when he was younger it was his second love he played threw high school and college but we all know from talking to Mr Bailey he loves helping us students at Chittenango and making a positive impact on our lives weather its joking around making students days or helping students that need it.
