October is a month where the leaves progressively change, the temperature slowly drops, and many festivities begin. Chittenango is no exception to this trend. In Chittenango, October holds a fall harvest festival for the Clear Path for Veterans, a local group that provides for the needs of veterans and supports their wellbeing. The harvest festival consists of chair massages, mulled cider mix making, relay races, pumpkin carving, and many more community activities. A worker at the Clear Path for Veterans, Jennifer Schiebler says “This festival is a great way for all veterans and their families to engage in fun activities.” Veterans, service members, and military families are welcome to this generous, supportive event.
Another popular event in October here in Chittenango is the celebration of Halloween. A Trunk or Treat event will be held at The Grand, a retirement home in Chittenango, that provides treats, fun, and other festive activities directed towards children. Additionally, The Wild Animal Park in North Chittenango will decorate the park with Halloween themed decorations, and many activities including the animals will be held from 6-10 pm. Many children and teens wander the village and neighborhoods on the night of Halloween to have fun with their friends and family. The neighborhoods are usually decorated with scary props and loaded with candy to hand out to the Trick-or-Treaters. The night of Halloween is typically chilly due to its setting in late October. In Chittenango, the temperature gradually decreases, making the average high temperatures from around 70 degrees to around 59 degrees, and the low temperatures around 57 degrees to 47 degrees. Rain is a common occurrence during October, and rarely, the temperature decreases low enough for it to snow. October in Chittenango is a beautiful, fun, and event-packed month, loaded with many activities and festivals.
