Bad Bunny HalfTime Show Controversy

Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, who is professionally known as Bad Bunny, is a Puerto Rican rapper, singer, record producer, and actor. He has been selected to be the main performer at the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime show.

On Sunday, the 28th, Apple Music and the NFL announced that Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Bad Bunny will perform at Super Bowl LIX during the halftime show. The 59th Super Bowl will be held on February 8th, in Santa Clara California at Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers.

There has been controversy surrounding this topic in the media. Many believe that this is a significant milestone in Latin American culture, while others criticize this choice due to the language barrier. Another reason for opposition is that Bad Bunny has been very vocal about his political beliefs, and his support towards U.S. immigrants which some Americans don’t particularly agree with.

Most Chittenango residents are very excited with this choice, especially Senior Gavin Karwoski, who states “I love Spanish music especially Bad Bunny, and my favorite song of his is DTMF.”

Others are not necessarily intrigued. “I’ve heard the name but I don’t really know who it is”, explained Mrs.Ronalds when questioned. Going along with this, “I think he’s talented but I think that there are far more talented artists who could reach a broader audience” stated Mr.Johnson.

Mrs.Fragoso says how “I am very surprised that he was chosen for the halftime show. I know how famous he is around the world but he doesn’t have any English songs, like JLo performed a couple of years ago but she has a couple of English songs.” Not to say she isn’t excited for his performance, but she worries that many Americans won’t enjoy it since they can’t understand it. His name has been in the media for various reasons recently, one being his appearance in Happy Gilmore 2. Senior Taylor Velardi, explains “I loved him in that movie, and I think his performance will be pretty good because he is silly.” Even though there is a language barrier for some Americans, and some do not even know his music, he is known to be a great performer and this performance should be one to remember.
