The bus ride to Cornell from Chittenango is long—long enough to watch the entirety of The Bee Movie—and Chittenango students boarded the bus to Cornell at 5:30 in the morning on Saturday.
Chittenango placed 54th overall, placing top 20 in events, such as, Robot Tours, Pokémon, and Bungee Drop. Chittenango placed 14th in Robot Tours, 16th in Pokémon, and 18th in Bungee Drop.
Each competition is memorable, from Tully’s after regionals, to winning medals, to almost making states. We asked two members from the team what their favorite moments were.
Jaymes Ronalds, a sophomore on the team, stated that someone on the bus ride home watched the entirety of The Bee Movie, as well as meeting people from other schools were his favorite memories from Cornell.
Leah Calunod, a senior on the team, says that her favorite memory from Cornell was doing the Pokémon event. She said that it was fun and recommended that all freshmen join Science Olympiad.
Even though there were unexpected difficulties, the team adapted and adjusted. We were unable to compete in Hovercraft due to safety concerns and missing parts. In Robot Tours, the robot made a wrong turn and cost us a failed run. In Electric Vehicle, the first run was around 300 cm off!
But what Bears do best is learn from our mistakes and use them as a teaching moment for the next try. We know that FM and LeMoyne will go better, and we can only improve from here!
