During the week of October 14th through 18th the students at Chittenango High celebrated another Spiritweek and Homecoming. The hallways were decorated, students dressed up for each day, an excellent pep rally occurred on Friday, the football team tragically lost the Homecoming game against Central Valley, and students had a great time at the Homecoming dance Saturday evening. However there is one question that some people are having: were more students participating in this homecoming compared to last Spiritweek and Homecoming?
Each year many students participate in Spiritweek and Homecoming. Whether it’s the Homecoming game or decorating for spirit week there is always a huge number of students who help out or are participating. However, there are some years that more people participate compared to other years. Was this year one of the years that less students were involved? According to Ms. Jhonston there has been some different levels of participation with Spiritweek and Homecoming compared to previous years.
When asked Ms. Johnston said, “I felt like there were fewer students who dressed up for Spiriweek this week. In terms of like decorating the hallways we had a ton of seniors who participated.” She also says, “it’s unfortunate because it’s fun”.
Even though there has been a little less participation in Spiritweek there was more participation at Homecoming. There were around the same amount of students at the Homecoming game, but at the Homecoming dance. At the dance there were almost five hundred students that came and participated, which is more then last year. In fact, according to Ms. Johnston more students have come to the homecoming dance compared to the previous year each year for the last 8 years!
Even though there might have been less participation in Spiritweek, there was more participation at Homecoming. Students and teachers alike had a great week and a fun time even if there was a little less participation this year than last year.
