The Chittenango Broadcast media team was Recognized with many awards on Tuesday, October 14th at the Syracuse University Empire State School Press Association awards ceremony. One award, however, recognized one of our amazing faculty members at CHS.
Mrs. Carpenter has been a teacher at Chittenango for many years. A few years ago, she took on a new challenge of the Bear Den News, a group of kids who broadcast games, concerts, and other events. This blew up quickly and became very popular. This turned into a half year class at Chittenango, known as broadcast media, where students (mostly Seniors) have the opportunity to work hands on with the technology used to make tv productions, as well as be on screen anchors and create quirky segments, all combined into one episode for every class to watch. Over 25 kids participate in this class that meets everyday. This year though, there are two separate classes, with Ms. Norman joining the faculty alongside Carp and Mr. Sylstra.
Carp was nominated for this award by Mr. Sylstra last year. “ I was surprised that Mr. Sylstra did all that,” Carp said. “It was very nice of him to submit me and super nice of Mrs. Gehreer and Mrs. Kluznik to show up as well.”
Carp also addressed the challenges faced with Bear Den News. “The minute you get one thing working the iPads change and now there’s no cell phones. But to me, that’s the fun of it.”
If you see Mrs. Carp in the halls, congratulate her and our Bear Necessities Crew!
