On Saturday, April 4th, the Chittenango Bears varsity softball team started the season against Central Square. The LadyBears went 14-6 last season, losing in the second round of the playoffs to New Hartford. Winning their home opener this year would set way for their playoff success as their coach Robin Penoyer said “New start. Fresh energy. Same mission.” The Bears came out swinging as they won the 11-3. Danica Oppenheimer, Lauren Machan, and Mackenna Palko would all lead the team batting all going 3 for 4 (.750 batting average). Lauren Machan lead the team with 3 RBIs and the team had three stolen bases one coming from each Alivia Cavotta, Lauren Machan, and Addison Martin. Freshman Karalynne Carmon would pitch for five inning striking out 11 batters and Lauren Machan would come in later pitching for two innings and striking out 2 batters. The Bears are on the road to face the CNS Northstars this Thursday. Good luck Bears!
