On October 9, 2025 the American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held in the small gym at Chittenango High School. This event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The American Red Cross gets a big portion of its blood from high school blood drives, around 20% to be specific. A majority of this blood is used for people who have cancer and/or those involved in vehicle accidents. Every two seconds someone needs blood.
To donate blood you have to be at least 16 years old. If you are 16 years old you have to bring in a signed permission slip. However, if you’re seventeen or older, you do not need a permission slip. You will receive a $10 Amazon.com gift card (by email) and a Red Cross t-shirt for your blood donation if you attend.
When asked, “What would you say to someone who’s scared about donating blood, but wants to donate?” Ms. Smith, a teacher here at the high school who is also a faculty advisor for Junior Honor Society, replied by saying, “If you want to give blood there is nothing to be scared about. The staff of the Red Cross is very helpful, and they really do a good job about making sure that they ease your mind”.
To schedule an appointment to donate blood call 1-800-733-2767 or go scan the QR code on the poster outside of Ms. Smith’s room. Even a small donation can have a big effect.
